What if a silly idea could make a big difference?

Relay For Life of Greene Co. hosting a purple glove dance video contest

Relay for Life of Greene County is calling on anyone with rhythm or a big heart for giving back.

The Relay For Life of Greene County entertainment committee has announced a social media video contest to raise funds for the American Cancer Society and raise awareness.

Community groups, large or small, are invited to make a short video of themselves “dancing” to any popular song wearing purple gloves. The color purple, or lavender, represents awareness for all forms of cancer.

“The term dancing is used loosely,” said Relay For Life of Greene County’s entertainment chair, Jean Van Gilder. “We just want you to pull together a group of friends, church-mates, co-workers or your own family and make a fun video waving, clapping, swinging or dancing to a song you love.”

The Holy Walkamolies have already posted their purple glove dance.

To enter, contestants need to post their videos to the Relay for Life of Greene County, Iowa Facebook page before April 20.

The three teams with the most likes on their video will have their video move on to the Relay for Life of Greene County’s 20th annual event on Saturday, April 23. There, the videos will be played throughout the day and the video with the most dollars raised in their jar will win the honor of “best purple glove dance.”
